Madagascar (near the Betsiboka River)
This Desert Jasper, also known as Polychrome Jasper (co- mes from the Greek words “poly,” meaning many, and “chroma,” meaning color) or Royal Savannah Jasper, features a rich palette of deep reds, vibrant oranges, earthy greens, and creamy whites, with occasional touches of blue, arranged in swirling, natural patterns. These colors are the result of mi- neral impurities—red, brown, yellow, and orange tones are primarily produced by iron minerals, while manganese com- pounds give rise to darker shades. Clay minerals contribute to the white and blue hues. Desert Jasper forms in sedimen- tary layers, where silica-rich deposits trap these minerals over thousands of years, resulting in the intricate patterns and striking colors. Originating from Madagascar, near the Betsi- boka River, this specimen reflects the complex volcanic and sedimentary processes that shaped its unique appearance.
