Its captivating sky-blue crystals, derived from the Greek word “coelestis,” meaning heavenly, shimmer with a glassy brilliance. Formed approximately 66 million years ago during the Tertiary period, this piece developed within sedimentary rock cavities as mineral-rich waters slowly deposited layers of celestite crystals. Unique to Madagascar, celestite often forms from the decomposition of fossil shells in low-temperature solutions, creating a stunning interior of sharp, well-defined crystals that range from pale to deep azure, all reflecting a vitreous luster.
